GameStop Raises $2.8 Million for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital®

January 7, 2016

GameStop and its family of retail brands sets new record for in-store donations, while helping advance research and treatment of childhood cancer and other life-threatening diseases

GRAPEVINE, Texas--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Jan. 7, 2016-- GameStop (NYSE: GME), a family of specialty retail brands that makes the most popular technologies affordable and simple, announced today that it collected $2.8 million as part of its support of the annual St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital® Thanks and Giving® campaign to help advance research and treatment of childhood cancer and other life-threatening diseases.

During November and December, GameStop along with its Spring Mobile AT&T, Simply Mac, ThinkGeek, Kongregate and Game Informer brands, invited customers and associates to donate to this important cause through its annual in-store and online donation program. Collectively, GameStop and its family of brands far exceeded its $1 million 2015 fund raising goal for the children of St. Jude.

“Our customers are truly amazing,” said Matt Hodges, vice president of Public and Investor Relations for GameStop. “Thanks to each customer that donated. Because of their generosity and the incredible support of our associates, we collected $2.8 million for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. Together we are all making a difference in helping the patients and families of St. Jude.”

Since first joining the annual holiday fundraising event in 2013, GameStop and its family of specialty retail brands has raised a combined total of more than $4.2 million thanks to the donations and support of its customers and associates. These funds are crucial given that no family ever receives a bill from St. Jude for treatment, travel, housing or food – because all a family should worry about is helping their child live.

“The support of our amazing corporate partners, like GameStop, allows our doctors and scientists to continue our lifesaving work,” said Marlo Thomas, National Outreach Director for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. “Their unwavering commitment to St. Jude also helps us to keep my father’s founding promise that no family ever pays St. Jude for anything. At St. Jude, we will never stop searching for the cures that will save the lives of children everywhere.”

Created by Marlo, Terre and Tony Thomas – children of St. Jude founder Danny Thomas – the St. Jude Thanks and Giving campaign asks people to "Give thanks for the healthy kids in your life, and give to those who are not” in order to help St. Jude continue its mission of finding cures and saving children.
